Types of Latex Mattresses

Types of Latex Mattresses

A lot of our customers are confused among the various types of mattresses available in the market currently. This page serves as a guide to answer those queries.

First and foremost, Latex mattresses are divided into primarily three types:

  • 100% Natural
  • Synthetic
  • Mixed

100% Natural: 100% Natural Latex mattresses are made using only natural materials. They are the best mattresses currently available to mankind and are completely organic. They do not cause any type of harm to the human body and provide the best comfort. Nature’s Touch only deals with 100% Natural Latex.

Synthetic: Much like artificial diamonds, synthetic latex is a man-made latex that tries to emulate the properties of Natural latex. These mattresses are not organic, and an easy way to distinguish between a synthetic and natural latex mattresses is using their smell. Synthetic mattresses have a chemical-like smell based while natural latex mattresses has the smell of the rubber tree’s milk. Another method to distinguish between them is by the use of certifications. Synthetic latex will not get certified for GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certification.

Mixed: Often advertised as Natural Latex mattresses, Mixed latex is misinterpreted by most to be organic mattresses. In reality, these mattresses only contain about 20-50% of the natural latex material and the rest is filled with filler chemical compounds. The method to distinguish between them is to also by their smell and certifications.

Next, the types of latex mattresses also vary :

Full latex mattresses: Full latex mattresses are just pure latex cakes. There is nothing else besides latex inside the bed covers. It is easy to identify them if you just open the cover. These provide the most comfort and support to the body, as the whole latex supports and adjusts to the contours of your body. Nature’s Touch only deals in full latex mattress.

Layered latex mixed with spring, coir or foam: These types of mattresses contain only 1,2 or 3 inch latex sheets and the rest is filled with either a spring core, a coir core or a foam core.

This is done to lessen the cost of the product, and as a result these mattresses cost less, but at the cost of comfort. The bottom part of a latex mattress is what provides support for the body, but these mattresses take that away and are only left with either support from spring, foam or coir. These will not adjust to the contours of your body, and the latex here only acts like a cushion, completely negating some of the best positive effects of latex. These are also vulnerable to dust-mites.

There may be any types of combinations of these types of mattresses around, and the price varies accordingly. Nature’s Touch deals only in 100% natural latex fully latex mattresses.
